Final cut!

After Effects

For the titles of our introduction I created them on Adobe After Effects for the PC. I got the idea from a video i saw on the internet explaining how to create some of your own titles on After Effects.

I found After Effects a very specialist program to use a at times the many tools can become complecated and see to do much of the same thing. However with some well layed out instructions with what each tool does I got more to grips with the Adobe product.

After the initial trial with After Effects I went about and made the titles using the video i found as a base of my design. However unlike the originol I didnt add as many effect as they had done and changed some of the properties of animation so it was more of my own.

I will also attempt to create some logos with After Effects which can also be added to the begining of the introduction so it doesnt just jump into the film as films rarely just jump into the film without any logos from funding companies or the company who owns the film.

Sound and Music Choices.

After we put our pieces of clip together we had to make decisions on what sounds to add or take away from the clips we were using.

Diagetic: In the first scene with th hand dialing on the phone we decided to take all sound out of the scene that was "Diagetic". We have done this as we found it didnt make a good mix with the non diagetic sound we used later on and it was best to take all sound out of this first scene.

Diagetic sound is returned to the scene with the sound of the man talking and walking across the floorbards in the next series of scenes with the villain present. However in the scene where their is an establishing shot on the street outside we took away the noise of the traffic for three reasons. The first was to create suspence from the lack of noise and to grab the audiances attention. Second was because it was meant to be at the point of view from the caller who wouldnt be able to hear the outside traffic. Lastly it was also to single out the voice of the person on the other end of the phone so the audiance can her wat he is saying.

Diagetic sound in the form of the person on the other end of the phone was added inbetween most of the title scenes as this was to give those scenes some form of sound other then just the moving image to keep the story going even whilst the titles rolled past.

Non Diagetic: We made use of non diagetic sound so the clip wasn't completely silent as this ruined any tention creaed by the charctor speaking and doesnt build up any effect with the beggining scene where took sound out completely.

Through the whole clip we used a sound of static to tackle the complete silence of some o the scenes so we turned the colume f this sound very low so it created an atmoshpere to start with. In the beggining scene we also added a little tune which sounded quite dark to fit with the clip we had already composed and also set the mood for a dark film which is associated with both Thirllers and Horrors.

Other non diagetic sound we used was on the main title of "Cold Calling" where we added the sound of a dialtone being scrambled to give the impression of either a hung phone or prehaps something more (creates mystory for the audiance as to what happened to the person on the other end of the phone) and then a sound which was called "Thunder roll" to give the title much more livelyness and ot make them be more hard hitting with the sound and we think gives more of a hard hitting impression on the audiance.
